Abstract: Standards of Democracy are often perceived as a national concept to describe the democratisation of a national system. There can be democratic Standards within European Institutions such as the European Union or the Council of Europe by applying a supranational grasp. These Standards of Democracy have an important European perspective that requires an extended understanding beyond national cultural ideas and constitutional regulations.
